2009 UDA COLLEGE SPIRIT PROGRAM

UDA is excited to announce the following additions to our College program:

UDA SIDELINE CLASS

UDA will be adding more to our very popular “sideline” class that will be taught each day.  Teams will come home from camp with more sideline material than ever!

HOME ROUTINE AT UDA SUMMER CAMP

We are excited to announce that teams competing in Home Routine will be able to qualify for Nationals! Teams who compete in Home Routine at a UDA Overnight College Camp and receive a trophy for their performance will qualify for the semifinal round of competition in any category they enter at UDA College Nationals.  These teams do not have to send in a video tape, they are already qualified for the semifinal round of competition. 

Teams who qualify by receiving a trophy for Home Routine may chose to send in a video tape for the chance to receive a partial paid bid or paid bid.  

Our UDA College Music exchange will again take place this summer.  We have made some exciting improvements to it! Coaches will be asked to email in tracks to the UDA office prior to July 1^st. The tracks will be then be sorted and compiled.  Coaches who contribute to the exchange will receive the completed CD at camp. We know that this will be a great benefit to coaches to be able to leave camp with a complete library of music to use throughout the year for performances.

UDA PARTIAL PAID AND PAID BIDS

UDA will continue distributing partial paid bids and paid bids through the video tape process. Videos will be due Tuesday, November 3, 2009. In order for teams to receive a paid or partial paid bid, they have to attend a UDA college camp and have at least 10 team members in attendance.

There will be additional recommendations given to teams to simplify the video process. These guidelines are intended to lessen the pressure on teams to spend excessive time on videotaping.  These guidelines will be given out at camp and discussed during coaches meetings. 

UDA SPIRIT TAPE

We are excited to announce that UDA will now include a “Spirit Tape” in its National Championship scoring.  Teams competing at Nationals will submit a tape in early January that will include footage of the dance teams in their main responsibility, supporting their universities.  The Spirit Tape Scores will carry over to the scores at College Nationals.  There is a possible of 15 total points to be earned in three sections.

Section One: Community and Campus Involvement which includes any event that the dance team participates in that is non sporting events.  This can include parade, pep rallies, community service performances, campus tours or any other “involvement” your dance team has on campus. 

Second Two: Halftime/Entertainment which will include any performance that is used for entertainment purposes for the University of College.  This can include time outs as well as halftime performances.  Dance Choreography must complement and be visual to the audience at the event it is being performed at.

Section Three: Spirit Raising Techniques which is based on how well the dance team uses their poms, band, cheerleaders or other actions that can be visible in a stadium or arena. 

The Spirit Tape will not be scored on how a crowd “reacts” to the dance teams performances or actions but by how well the dance team executes dance choreography that complements the event. 

The time length of the Spirit Tape should not exceed 1 minute and 30 seconds.  Please split the three sections up as evenly as possible between 1:30 to ensure each section has a similar amount of time.  This will also give the opportunity for each section to score the full 5 points that it is designated.

Examples of spirit tapes will be shown at all UDA Overnight College Camps.

UDA POM CATEGORY

UDA will also be adding the pom category at Nationals.  More information, including score sheets will be given out at camp. Teams may enter 2 of the 3 categories.  The Nationals divisions and categories are listed below:
